Can Chris Coleman avoid a Christmas crisis?

Father Christmas has delivered little cheer to Coventry City fans or the club’s incumbent manager over the past two years and Chris Coleman will be hoping to avoid the kind of Christmas crisis that engulfed both Micky Adams and Iain Dowie and eventually saw them sacked.

It all fell apart for Adams on 16 December 2006 when a decent run of Sky Blue form was dramatically halted by a 5-0 defeat at West Brom.

Four games in eight days over Xmas and the New Year then yielded only one point and Adams was gone by mid-January after an FA Cup exit at the hands of then lower league Bristol City.

One year later and Dowie’s chance to impress new chairman Ray Ranson disappeared into the cold skies surrounding Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road ground.

A 4-0 hammering on 22 December was followed by a run of two wins from eight games and even more cup heroics, this time at Blackburn Rovers, were not enough to save Dowie from the axe.
