Former Coventry City manager Terry Butcher has made a surprise return to English football after being named as the new manager of Brentford, recently relegated to League Two.

‘I’m thrilled and delighted to be here,’ the ex-England captain, in charge of the Sky Blues between November 1990 and January 1992, told the Bees website.

‘I was impressed by the board and the chairman and their plans for the club’s future.’

Butcher has also had spells in charge of Sunderland, Motherwell and Sydney FC.
