After a summer of frustration on the transfer front, including a failed move for Coventry City’s Michael Mifsud, Bristol City finally landed a striker when they paid Crewe around £2m for Nicky Maynard.

That money already looks well spent, with Maynard netting on his home debut against Derby County last weekend.

He told BBC Bristol: ‘I base my game on being in the right place at the right time and predicting where the ball is going to be.

‘There are not many people who score easy goals and I like to think of myself in that category.’
