Coventry City’s efforts to get their recent game against Barnsley played, coupled with the late, late FA Cup exit at the hands of Portsmouth, means the Sky Blues now have a week off before they face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium next Tuesday.

That means a week of transfer speculation as the deadline draws near, with the future of Leon Best now taking centre-stage.

Middlesbrough are the latest club to be linked with the striker although Gordon Strachan’s side are slipping away from the play-off places and are looking unlikely to be in the top-flight next season.

If no interest comes in from either the top of the Championship or the Premier League, Best may look to run his contract down and move on in the summer (as he did when leaving Southampton for City).

Aron Gunnarsson’s name was mentioned in the weekend gossip columns as a target for Premier League Burnley although the Icelander faces a battle just to get into the City first-team at present after the signings of Gary Deegan and Carl Baker (who has impressed already as a substitute and could be handed a start in South Wales).

The Keiren Westwood trail appears to have gone cold meanwhile, a situation that will please Chris Coleman and all Sky Blues fans, who are well aware of the goalkeeper’s value to the side.
