In keeping with the club’s recent history, Coventry City’s rare night of positive news with the win against Sheffield United has been followed by a story which once again casts doubt on the very future of CCFC in its present form.

The Telegraph is reporting on Thursday evening that a 21-day deadline has been issued to the club by stadium company ACL in the dispute over unpaid rent.

Full details on the Telegraph website.

***Update***The club’s response to the deadline makes grim reading as it ends with the following statement.

‘The club remains committed to the city and people of Coventry.

‘However, its viability depends on it finding an alternative home ground where it can afford to play.’

There have been plenty of stories about the Sky Blues over the past year or so which have hinted that the club may be on the brink but none as frightening as this.

SISU appear to be banking on enough pressure being placed on ACL to make them back down so as not to be painted as the people who bring the club down. Their arguments over the size of the rent are understandable but the owners have no fund of goodwill on which to draw and sympathies look to lie with the stadium company who can, after all, point to a legally binding agreement over the rent, albeit not one entered into by the current owners.

Will the club see in the new year? We can only hope so.
