Coventry City have been joined by Sheffield United in the race to sign attacking midfielder John Fleck after his decision not to transfer his contract from the recently-liquidated Rangers FC to the ‘newco’ established to take its place.

With uncertainty over which division of Scottish Football the ‘new’ Rangers will be playing in next season Fleck is one of a number of players who are set to challenge any move to keep them at Ibrox.

The Daily Mail on Thursday suggests that the Sky Blues are close to a deal but Sheffield United were keen on the player last season and may revive their interest.

Vital View: If City do pick up a bargain from Rangers it will make a nice change given the transfer disasters we suffered in the late 80’s and early 90’s when dealing with the Glasgow club.

This one’s for Sandy Robertson!

***Update***The club have also announced on Thursday the suspension of midfielder Gary Deegan as they investigate posts made from his Twitter account.

A statement on the Sky Blues’ website said: “Neither the club or the player will be making any further statements while the investigation is on going.”
