Aidy Boothroyd has said consistently since taking over the Sky Blues that the Ricoh Arena will become the place to be over the next few years and he gets an early taster of how a decent crowd can transform the venue when Leeds United come to town on Saturday.

A good away following always helps to generate an atmosphere but the arrival of 6,000 Whites’ followers is not the only factor at play as those in and around Coventry begin to take notice of the strides taken by Boothroyd’s team in his short time in charge to date.

That means a 25,000 gate is expected for what should be an tasty Championship encounter, livened up further by comments made in the press this week by Gary McSheffrey and Leeds chairman Ken Bates.

Responding to in-form McSheffrey’s claims of a ‘lack of respect’ while on loan at Elland Road from Birmingham last season, Bates retorted: ‘When you go on loan to a club, you have a magnificent opportunity.

‘It’s a chance to get under the spotlight and the fact of the matter is he was very disappointing.

‘He didn’t make an impact. It was down to him not Simon Grayson. If you want to be successful you look in the mirror and ask ‘what could I have done?’

‘No doubt he will be trying to prove us wrong and him right on Saturday. He has done well for them and I would say you’re better letting your feet do the talking.’

To be fair it has taken the returning hero time to find his feet with City this season but now McSheffrey is showing the form that saw him leave the Ricoh originally for £4m he will be determined to make his mark on Saturday’s game.
