Coventry City slipped a point further away from the play-offs on Tuesday night but that doesn’t tell the whole story of their game against Colchester United.
Trailing 2-0 with 13 minutes to go in Steven Pressley’s first home match as manager the Sky Blues were energised by young substitute Callum Wilson who got them back into the game before Carl Baker levelled in injury time.
The point may not be enough in the final reckoning but the fightback ends a run of home defeats and will provide Pressley with some cheer as to the battling qualities of the new squad he has inherited.
9,431 brave souls were in attendance.
Pressley told the club website after the game that a ‘dominant’ City should have won the game but praised the determination shown by his players to rescue a point.
“I spoke about character at the weekend and I’ve seen it in abundance again and the players deserve enormous credit for that.
“Losing 2-0 at home is not an easy situation but the response in the closing stages has given us something to build on.”
