Robbie Simpson has seen a clause in his contract invoked to tie him to Coventry City for a further year but may be leaving this summer anyway if reports of interest from Huddersfield Town are true.

“I have had a letter saying that the club want to take that option up so I am pleased that they feel so highly of me to give me that extra year,’ he told the Coventry Telegraph.

Huddersfield, who face the Sky Blues in a pre-season friendly at the Galpharm Stadium on July 25, are making big plans to get out of League One, with a new striker central to them.

Lee Clark has already been linked this summer with moves for Bristol Rovers hotshot Rickie Lambert and veteran star Kevin Phillips.

Simpson has been a popular figure with Coventry fans since being plucked from non-league Cambridge in 2007 but has only managed to net 4 league goals to date, from 24 starts and 37 subs appearances.
