Having resigned themselves to a long wait for the club’s transfer embargo to be lifted, Coventry City fans received a rare piece of good news on Wednesday as the overdue accounts have been filed and signed off by the Football League.

It had previously looked as though the embargo would be in place as long as talks over a deal to buy a share of the Ricoh Arena were in deadlock but Andy Thorn should now be able to make some progress down his list of summer targets.

‘This is positive news for the club on many levels,’ chief executive Tim Fisher told the club’s website.

‘The lifting of the embargo means we can start to move forward with plans we have for the new season.

‘Andy Thorn and Steve Waggott can now push on with implementing the squad plans they have worked so hard to put together in readiness for this decision.’
