Administration – the human cost

In an open letter to Coventry City fans, Stuart Linnell, writing in his capacity as chairman of Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has urged Sky Blues fans to get down to the Ricoh Arena for the upcoming home fixtures against Watford, Colchester and West Ham.

He is also right to point out that while going into administration, despite the 10-point penalty, is sometimes seen as a quick fix for a club in trouble, there is a very real human cost to it.

Stuart writes: ‘It would see some of the club’s supplier companies go to the wall with the loss of jobs across the region.

‘At least one of the clubs who went down that route fairly recently is now blamed directly in their town for the collapse of local businesses with hundreds put out of work.

‘Not only that, but the club in question is amassing debts all over again in its quest for promotion and is heading straight back towards the situation that forced it into administration in the first place.’
