Sky Blues boss Micky Adams was proud of his player’s efforts over their two games with Middlesbrough after running the Premiership side close in last night’s FA Cup 4th round replay.

He said after the game: ‘We have shown enough in the two games to have won the tie, perhaps missed a fantastic opportunity at the Ricoh, but I think we can be proud of our night’s work, although we have gone out of the cup.’

Under-fire Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren was relieved to see his side win the game and praised the reaction of his players to Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat by Aston Villa.

He said: ‘The result was all important – winning football matches puts smiles on people’s faces.

‘It was a gritty performance – not pretty, but gritty.

‘Being hard to beat and keeping a clean sheet was the most important thing.

‘Everybody from the front to the back gave a performance which showed they didn’t want to get beat.’
