Dennis Wise today completed a surprise move to Coventry City on a pay-as-you-play deal until the end of the season.

The move for the 39-year-old is the first sign that some increased funds are being made available to manager Micky Adams following Paul Fletcher’s appointment as managing director of the club.

Wise will provide cover for the injured Stephen Hughes and Isaac Osbourne and may make an immediate debut against Derby on Saturday.

His previous clubs include Wimbledon, Chelsea and Millwall where as manager he guided the Lions to the 2004 FA Cup Final.

Adams told the club website: ‘He is a committed and determined individual.

‘Despite approaching the winter of his career, he?s kept himself in the best possible shape in order to compete at this level.

?This is not a pay day for Dennis and he?s not signing for us for financial reasons.

?He?s an experienced professional who?s coming to help us out on a short-term deal.

?I think his addition to the squad will benefit everybody.?
