An article on the Guardian website on Thursday, on the eve of Coventry City’s high court appearance, highlights that, in public at least, the two warring parties are no closer to reaching an agreement while supporters, club staff and players are waiting to hear what the future holds.
Explaining the decision to push for administration at this time, James Powell of Walker Morris (representing ACL) said: ‘The opposition’s interest may be to fight but is that in the best interest of the club?’
Chief executive Tim Fisher and director Tim Labovitch, meanwhile, have cast doubt on a potential takeover of the club and say that, when the facts are explained to supporters they say: ‘You’ve got to get the right deal for the club. We’ve got to think long-term.’
So, Friday looms large but it will not bring a clean end to a sorry saga. The three scenarios outlined in the Coventry Telegraph this week all bring with them further questions and further complications whether administration comes now or later.
The war of words is far from over yet!
***Update***Thursday’s CT states that SISU are aiming to avoid an administration order being placed on them by either arguing that the original lease agreement is illegal or coming to a last-minute deal over some or all of the rent.
Purely from the short-term view of the football club Vital Coventry believes it would be preferable to see the current season out, give the players the chance to make the play-offs and then let battle commence over the summer. That may make next season a write-off but at least supporters would know this in advance.
