Two goals each for John Fleck and Cody Macdonald gave a welcome boost to Coventry City’s somewhat stuttering pre-season form as they put four past Accrington Stanley on Saturday afternoon.

John Fleck’s first was from the penalty spot but his second was a sensational chip from 45 yards out near the touchline which completely deceived the Stanley keeper.

The Sky Blues now face former boss Micky Adams in their next game at Port Vale in midweek.

“I’m obviously pleased with the result, but there’s still a lot of work to be done,” Thorn told the club’s official website afterwards.

“It’s another step for us in pre-season. We wanted to try a few different systems over the past few games because it’s a long season and we did that again here, but we’ve started concentrating more on our shape over the past two days and I think you could see evidence of that.”
