A £72,500 signing from Shrewsbury Town in 1984, goalkeeper Steve Ogrizovic remains part of the furniture at Coventry City a quarter of a century later, his place in the club’s history books secure for evermore after making over 600 appearances for the club and playing a key role in their only major trophy win to date.

Oggy’s legendary status contrasts starkly with two of his fellow ‘O’s.

Michael O’Neill, signed in 1996 from Hibernian made only 5 appearances for the club but at least didn’t cost £1m, like Keith O’Neill, who arrived from Middlesbrough after City’s relegation in 2001.

7 league starts and 5 subs appearances fail to tell the story of a player who Jim Brown describes in his excellent history of Highfield Road, ‘Ghosts of a Vanished Stadium’, as ‘the worst City player of all time’.
