The news that Mark Robins was returning to Coventry City was one of the few bright moments for Sky Blues supporters last season, giving some hope that a better future could still be carved out for a club that looked to be on its last legs.

Winning at Wembley just a short while afterwards was wonderful but a one-off in a competition that had no bearing on league form or anything else.

The difference could already be seen, however, in the final weeks of the campaign even as relegation was confirmed.

As soon as the final whistle blew on that campaign, Robins wasted no time in giving supporters confidence that, whatever happened off the pitch, his team on the pitch would give 2017/18 their best shot by bringing Michael Doyle back to the club and backing that up with good quality, permanent signings instead of a revolving door of loanees.

The manager has got it right more often than not in the transfer market and more often than not in matches and has restored pride to a football club that was a laughing stock.

Here’s to the next year.
