Another high-scoring game for Coventry City on Tuesday night saw the Sky Blues lose 4-2 to Gillingham despite a brave effort from Steven Pressley’s side after the early dismissal of Dan Seaborne.

Both sides netted twice from the penalty spot on a frantic evening of football but it was the hosts who gained an important three points.

Pressley rightly praised the way his side tried to win the game despite their man advantage and questioned referee Darren Sheldrake’s consistency of decision making.

City however have now conceded 63 goals in the league this season, more than any side bar Crewe Alexandra and Notts County, both of whom are in the relegation zone.

With the Sky Blues having netted 64 (as many as leaders Wolves and behind only Leyton Orient) it means 35 games have produced an incredible 127 goals but, as with Tuesday night, they are letting in too many on too many occasions and their excellent attacking play cannot always change the situation.

Pressley admitted: ‘We have let ourselves down by conceding a couple of soft goals – at 1-1 we concede to a long throw and things like that are killing us just now. Poor decision making on two or three occasions cost us very dearly.’
