Heart of Midlothian winger Andrew Driver, a top summer target for the Sky Blues, is set to be named in the next England Under-21 squad, ahead of potential new regulations that would allow him to play for Scotland next season.

The Scottish FA wants players who have completed five years schooling in a country to be eligible for their adopted national team.

‘I would be disappointed if Andrew Driver was to choose England, but they are within their rights to include him,’ said SFA chief Gordon Smith.

‘But he might just want to wait until the rules change if he feels Scottish, which I believe he does.’

Driver, who moved to Edinburgh with his family aged 11, is set to be named by Stuart Pearce in his party for the friendly against Azerbaijan on June 8.
